Dialysis is the process of removing excess water, solutes, and toxins from the blood of people whose kidneys can no longer perform these functions naturally and need a manual treatment. Ultrafiltration is a process where the high hydrostatic pressure forces small molecules such as water, glucose, amino acids, sodium chloride and urea pass through the filter, from the blood in the glomerular capsule across the base membrane of the Bowman’s capsule and into the nephron.
Dialysis Ultrafiltration Mechanism

How Is Ultrafiltration Different?

Difference Between Ultrafiltration And Hemodialysis
One should not confuse in between hemodialysis and ultrafiltration dialysis. Ultrafiltration is the removal of fluid volume from a patient and is mainly a man made machine. Ultrafiltration is one of the functions of the kidney and the hemodialysis machine. The other function that a hemodialysis machine is capable of is to perform cleaning of the blood in order to remove the toxins and built up wastes from the body. Hence the combination of dialysis and ultrafiltration make up the term hemodialysis.
